Damiana Licor (liqueur)

Is damiana an aphrodisiac? Unlikely. It is, however, a shrub that produces lovely yellow flowers. The leaves and stems can be harvest to make tea. I have a damiana licor I use to enhance the flavor of fruit dishes. I love to make a dish where the person enjoying my food notices a unique flavor note and just can’t place it. Damiana licor always does the trick.

Damiana licor is a floral liqueur. It is a sweet garden of blooms captured in a bottle. This liqueur can be found in the United States, the bottle pictured was purchased in Costa Rica. Damiana is not only a tropical plant, it is rumored to be a cure for a wide variety of maladies in some cultures. As such, it is easily found in the Caribbean and Central American tropics in all forms. It is smoked, used as a tea, consumed as a supplement and as an alcoholic treat.

I make no claim to any health properties of damiana, I leave that to your research. I do recommend the liqueur for it’s refined sweet floral flavor.
